(FINAL DRAFT - UNDP INTERNAL USE ONLY) Clean Energy Equity Index (CEEI)

The Clean Energy Equity Index (CEEI) is a composite indicator that assesses the ability and need of various entities (such as countries, provinces, or districts) to transition to clean energy. It takes into account factors such as clean energy potential, available means for a just transition, and the level of urgency for the transition, comprising 14 indicators for which data is disaggregated at the district level. Values close to 1 indicate areas that are relatively better off, with high potential for renewable energy sources, where the population has the means and resources to transition independently to renewable energy, and where environmental pressure (e.g., GHG emissions) is low. The CEEI helps policymakers, development practitioners and other stakeholders to identify priority geographical areas for investment and intervention, ensuring a more equitable and efficient transition to sustainable energy systems. The concept note is available here.

Constrained Population Count (100m resolution) in 2020 in Libya

Estimated total number of people per grid-cell. The dataset is available to download in Geotiff format at a resolution of 3 arc (approximately 100m at the equator). The projection is Geographic Coordinate System, WGS84. The units are number of people per pixel. "NoData" values represent areas that were mapped as unsettled based on the outputs of the Built-Settlement Growth Model (BSGM) developed by Jeremiah J.Nieves et al. 2020.

The mapping approach is the Random Forests-based dasymetric redistribution developed by Stevens et al. (2015). The disaggregation was done by Maksym Bondarenko (WorldPop) and David Kerr (WorldPop), using the Random Forests population modelling R scripts (Bondarenko et al., 2020), with oversight from Alessandro Sorichetta (WorldPop).

Overture Buildings (Cloud-Native Geo experiments)

This data is currently just a set of experiments using the new overture maps. See their github repo for more info. My hope is that this can try out some better ways to distribute the data, and to build an ecosystem of tools and data distributions on top of the core. This PMtiles was published as of July 28, 2023 at source.coop. Overture data is licensed under the Community Database License Agreement – Permissive v2 (CDLA) unless derived from a source that requires publishing under a different license, such as data derived from OpenStreetMap, that constitutes a “Derivative Database” (as defined under ODbL v1.0), which will be licensed under ODbL v1.0. Sentinel-2 Level-2A

The Sentinel-2 program provides global imagery in thirteen spectral bands at 10m-60m resolution and a revisit time of approximately five days. This dataset represents the global Sentinel-2 archive, from 2016 to the present, processed to L2A (bottom-of-atmosphere) using Sen2Cor and converted to cloud-optimized GeoTIFF format.

Google Microsoft Building Footprints as of September 2023

This dataset merges Google's V3 Open Buildings and Microsoft's latest Building Footprints which was created by VIDA. With 2,534,595,270 footprints, it is to our knowledge the most complete openly available dataset as of September 2023. It covers 92% of Level 0 administrative boundaries, and is divided into 182 partitions. Each footprint is labelled with its respective source, either Google or Microsoft. It can be accessed in cloud-native geospatial formats such as GeoParquet, FlatGeobuf and PMTiles. See more details about the dataset at source.coop

Clean Energy Equity Index (CEEI) - New York State

The Clean Energy Equity Index (CEEI) is a composite index measuring current progress towards an equitable carbon neutral future of New York State that includes three objectives: toward clean energy equity, clean energy potential, and urgency to clean energy transition. This is the first draft showcase version. We may add or drop several indicators in the near future, which may affect the final index values.
